The composer Brian Ferneyhough writes scores that make even seasoned performers nervous: dense, complex, difficult to play. But for a listener, the music sounds exuberant, physical, deliriously frenetic. Hearing, and seeing, a musician play this music is pure theater - its visceral energy reaches your gut before it reaches your head. In The Game, sharing a table with the violinist are two dancers engaged in a confrontation of iconic stillness: a card game.
