Choreographers find their inspiration in many places. In Terzetto, the inspiration came from the dancers themselves, from their actions, reactions and interactions in the rehearsal studio. The result is a ballet that hints at the mixture of camaraderie and playful competition among these dancers, distilled into short individual (and slightly tongue-in-cheek) portraits culminating in a grand finale. The selection of piano etudes by Scriabin adds to the characterization with its bold harmonic language. Interestingly, Scriabin suffered from a condition that made him experience sounds also as colors; this ballet presents a colorful palette that shines through its performers.
