Arachnophilia

Arachnophilia

Choreographer's Note: Arachnophilia was inspired by the artist Louise Bourgeois’s spider sculptures, as well as by the music of John Cage. The work is divided into seven sections, one for each segment of Cage’s compositions. For Bourgeois the spider was a metaphor for her mother, and each spider sculpture she created was inspired by their relationship. The seven sections of Arachnophilia share a theme but remain separate, echoing the structure of the music. In this choreography, each segment also stems from a different aspect of my relation to my own mother, to whom I dedicate this work.
