Greetings,
Is there undanceable music? How about late
20th century avant-garde music - the difficult
kind that most concert presenters are so nervous
about? I have always been curious about how to marry
just this kind of music - with its jagged texture - to
dance. Inspired by the totally new sound worlds, my
choreographic imagination really took off (and the
music seemed far easier to understand in its new
alliance with physical movement).
Catch a glimpse of the result in our
upcoming June show, on a program completed by
ballets to Corelli, Mozart and Scriabin for a fitting
conclusion to our 3rd season. A good time for me to
thank you for your ongoing support as an audience
member - without your interest, where would we be?
I hope to see you at the performance!
Sincerely,
Miro Magloire
Artistic Director, New Chamber Ballet

Spring and Terzetto on CD...
NCB pianist Melody Fader recently recorded her first
solo CD in a studio in New York, with works by
Chopin, Mozart and Scriabin. Two of the offerings are
familiar to NCB audiences: Mozart's Sonata K311 was
featured in last year's Mozart Celebration in the ballet
Spring , and Scriabin's daunting piano Etudes
are the music to Constantine Baecher's ballet
Terzetto. The CD is completed by a selection of
Chopin works, including the seldom-heard but
captivating Nocturne op.62 no.1.

News From Our Artists...
While the New Chamber Ballet was on break, our
artists have been busy working on their own
projects. Guest Choreographer Deborah
Lohse launched her company, the
ad hoc ballet, in a superb weekend of
performances at Lincoln Center. The performers
included NCB's Elizabeth Brown as well as
NCB Alumni Amy Brandt and Candice
Thompson.
NCB violinist Erik Carlson (pictured)
continued the performance series of
his New York
Miniaturist Ensemble. As the name indicates,
this original ensemble is dedicated to
performing works composed of a hundred notes or
fewer...

An Always Urgent Matter...
|

Keeping the Wheels Turning
We're asking for your money again... Why? Ticket
sales cover only about 20% of the costs of each
performance. We aim to keep our costs as low
as possible, but there are rehearsal
studio fees (a big item here in the city),
performance space fees, music royalties, performer
fees, printing costs, costume building and
maintenance, sheet music costs, stamps, banking
fees, advance ticket sale fees, PR costs...
All of these items are necessary to produce our little,
bare bones performances. Instead of cutting
back, we try to perform more to keep our art
alive and you, our audience, happy. Not an easy task,
but we can do it with your help! Please take a
moment to go to our website and find out how you can
support our work...
