FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRISTIN HANNA TO LEAVE NEW CHAMBER BALLET AFTER 2007-2008 SEASON
Dancer Christin Hanna will leave the New Chamber Ballet at the end of the company's current season. Hanna, who was with the company since its beginning in 2004, will return to her native California. Her last performance with the New Chamber Ballet will be on June 28th at 8pm at City Center Studios, New York.
Hanna cites a desire for a change in her life as the reason for her departure: "Joining NCB really shaped and matured me as a dancer, and most importantly, as a person. Feeling comfortable artistically opened new doors for me in many contexts. I've always had the idea of pursuing other avenues, and since my time here has been so fulfilling, I feel free to move on without regret."
In her four years with New Chamber Ballet, Hanna was a pivotal presence both on and off stage. She created roles in a number of ballets by artistic director Miro Magloire, including Preludes, Spring, Mostly Soft, Follia, Cancion and Aeolia, as well as Reflections II, a solo choreographed for her. Hanna was also active as the company's director of development.
Some of her most memorable appearances were in ballets by Constantine Baecher. "Baecher really pressed me hard to break my boundaries, and sometimes it wasn't easy," Hanna says. "Perhaps because of that process, each of his ballets is something I inhabit. I have completely lost myself in them. Being in a position to make a connection like that has truly meant the world to me." She premiered roles in Baecher's Wanderlust, Terzetto and Viduity.
For Hanna's final performances with New Chamber Ballet on June 27th and 28th at 8pm at New York's City Center Studios, she will reprise her roles in Baecher's Wanderlust and Viduity and Magloire's Follia. As a special highlight, she will also perform in the company premiere of Baecher's Pas de Deux Aria and Anvil, alongside the choreographer. Tickets for the performance are available at (212) 868-4444 or www.smarttix.com.
