TRUCKEE TAHOE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO THE NEW CHAMBER BALLET TO SUPPORT ITS LAKE TAHOE PROJECT 2007
7/20/07 - The New Chamber Ballet was awarded a $2,000 grant by the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation to support its 2007 residency in Lake Tahoe, it was announced today by NCB Artistic Director Miro Magloire.
The grant will help fund the “NCB Lake Tahoe Project”, a yearly residency by the company intended to introduce the region to the art of ballet. This summer’s offerings will include a performance in Tahoe City, a weeklong series of classes for children and teenagers presented in cooperation with the Tahoe Dance School, as well as an outreach program with the Boys and Girls’ Club of North Lake Tahoe.
The NCB Tahoe Project is an initiative of NCB dancer and Tahoe native Christin Hanna. “I wanted to give the young people of my community a first-hand opportunity to learn from, watch, and be inspired by professional artists”, Hanna explained. Now in its second year, the project focuses on two areas: exposing children and teens to ballet in classes and workshops, and stimulating the cultural life of the region with performances.
Commenting on the grant, Artistic Director Magloire said, “The Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation’s grant will be a tremendous boost for our project, allowing us to expand our program and to reach out to a wider audience. It strengthens our mission to make ballet available to everyone in the region. This is a gift not only to the NCB, but to all residents in the area.”
