Miro Magloire continues his City Center Studio performance series when he presents his New Chamber Ballet in two world premieres, Saturday November 11 at 8 PM.  The company of five dancers and two musicians will premiere Magloire's new work to music by Franz Schubert, and "Three Ghost Rags" by guest choreographer Ian Spencer Bell.

Magloire enjoys the simplicity of the City Center Studio setting, with total focus on the dance and music. As Jennifer Dunning remarked: "In this era of high technique and low irony, there is something to be said for artlessness.  Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet....communicated (the) choreographer's quiet vision of dance that blooms where it is planted."  (The New York Times, September 26, 2006).    And Joel Lobenthal, writing in The New York Sun, found that "...the New Chamber Ballet has already carved out its own niche; it will be interesting to watch its continued evolution.” (September 25, 2006).

Magloire's new (as yet untitled) ballet is a women's trio set to Schubert's sonata for violin and piano in A major, performed by company musicians Melody Fader (piano) and Ariana Kim (violin).  Magloire's musical selections and commitment to always having live music come from his extensive training as a pianist/composer. "Mr. Magloire's three pieces felt like conversations with the music", noted Jennifer Dunning (The New York Times, September 26, 2006).

Also receiving its world premiere is "Three Ghost Rags" by guest choreographer Ian Spencer Bell, currently a Teaching Artist for American Ballet Theatre and former member of the Pacific Northwest Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet.   Bell has been inspired to create these three solos on the idea of "gracefully departing, letting go," by the delightful music of American composer William Bolcom, including "Graceful Ghost," Bolcom's most famous rag.

From the repertory are Magloire's ballets "Round," music by Mozart, created last year as a tribute to the 250th Anniversary of the great composer's birth; and "Terzetto" a "cheeky romp" (Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times, September 26, 2006) by guest choreographer Constantine Baecher to etudes by Scriabin.

Company dancers are Elizabeth Brown, Christin Hanna, Denise Small, and new members Amy Brandt (member since 2003 of Suzanne Farrell Ballet) and Samuel Pott (previously with American Repertory Ballet and Oakland Ballet).
