FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AN EVENING WITH THE NEW CHAMBER BALLET ON FRIDAY, JUNE 9TH, 2006

PERFORMANCE TO INCLUDE A WORLD PREMIERE AND LIVE MUSIC

05/11/2006 - New York, New York – The New Chamber Ballet will present an evening of new ballets with live music on Friday, June 9th, 8pm at City Center’s Studio 4, 130 W 56TH St between 6th and 7th Ave. The program will include works by Artistic Director Miro Magloire and guest choreographer Constantine Baecher. Admission is $15 ($10 for students with ID and seniors). Tickets can be purchased online at www.smarttix.com or by phone at (212) 868-4444.

World Premiere – One highlight of the performance will be the world premiere of Miro Magloire’s new ballet. Set to music by Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini, it blends intricate segments for three dancers with a demanding solo violin part. It will be danced by Elizabeth Brown, Denise Small and Lauren Toole, with Erik Carlson on the violin.

Also on the program will be Wanderlust, a Chekhov-inspired Pas de Deux by Constantine Baecher, an American currently dancing with the Royal Danish Ballet. Set to music by Schubert, it was conceived as an abstract, poetic retelling of Chekhov’s short story “The Lovers”. The ballet, Baecher’s first for the New Chamber Ballet, received its world premiere this spring and will be performed by Christin Hanna and Damien Johnson.

The performance will also feature a return into the repertory of Magloire’s ballet Valses, set to South American waltzes performed here for the first time in an arrangement for piano and violin by the choreographer. It will be danced by Elizabeth Brown, Christin Hanna, Damien Johnson and Denise Small.

The program will open with a repeat performance of Miro Magloire’s Spring, set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Choreographed as part of a tribute for the composer’s 250th anniversary earlier this year, the ballet will be performed by Elizabeth Brown, Christin Hanna and Damien Johnson

Live Music – The music will be performed live by the New Chamber Ballet’s musicians, violinist Erik Carlson and pianist Melody Fader.

The Company – The New Chamber Ballet performs original works of contemporary ballet with live music in simple, intimate settings. Founded in 2004 by choreographer Miro Magloire, the company is based in New York City where it performs regularly. Other engagements have included a tour to Germany and an appearance at Dancers Respond to AIDS’ Remember Project. This summer, the company will perform in the Inside/Out series at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Magloire’s vision unites his background as a musical composer as well as a choreographer to give the viewer “...a real sense of how the music becomes human movement.”

The New Chamber Ballet's performances are made possible in part through the sponsorship of The Field.
