NEW CHAMBER BALLET TO PRESENT THREE WORLD PREMIERES ON SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH, 2005
PROGRAM TO INCLUDE TWO GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS AND LIVE MUSIC
5/16/2005 - New York, New York – The New Chamber Ballet will present an evening of new ballets with live music on Saturday, June 4th, 8pm at City Center’s Studio 4, 130 W 56TH St between 6th and 7th Ave. The program will include the World Premieres of ballets by Artistic Director Miro Magloire and guest choreographer Deborah Lohse, as well as a guest appearance by dancer and choreographer Luke Wiley. Admission is $15 ($10 for students and dancers). Reservations and information are available at (212) 246-5758 or at www.newchamberballet.com.
World Premieres – The music of Johann Sebastian Bach was the inspiration for the two world premiere ballets by Miro Magloire. The first, set to Bach’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in No. 4, is a work showcasing three dancers in intricate yet poetic solos. It will be danced by Christin Hanna, Denise Small and Julia Welsh. The second new ballet, set to chorales by Bach in a transcription for violin and piano by the choreographer, is an introspective pas de trois performed by Elizabeth Brown, Damien Johnson and Denise Small. The program also includes the World Premiere of Weather, an edgy solo by guest choreographer Deborah Lohse with costumes by Amanda Waal, performed by Elizabeth Brown. Weather is part of a longer ballet to be premiered this fall. Another highlight of the performance will be a guest appearance by dancer and choreographer Luke Wiley in Ghost Dances, a collaboration with pianist Melody Fader. The program will be completed by a performance of Miro Magloire’s ballet Trio Op. 12 to music by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Live Music – This performance of the New Chamber Ballet will be accompanied by live music. The musicians are violinist Erik Carlson and pianist Melody Fader. Mr. Carlson is a young violinist who has extensively performed in New York and beyond, and Ms. Fader, a recent Juilliard graduate, also has a busy performing career that has brought her among others to the Spoleto Festival in Italy. For both artists this is the second collaboration with the New Chamber Ballet.
This performance is made possible in part through the sponsorship of The Field.
