- The New Chamber Ballet Summer Intensive Team -
Fall 2010
The 'New' in New Chamber Ballet stands, among other things, for new choreography: with more than 40 ballets by six choreographers premiered in the past six years, the company has been a creative hotbed.
This fall, New Chamber Ballet is planning to hold workshops for young choreographers. Guided by artistic director Miro Magloire and choreographers Deborah Lohse and Emery LeCrone, the participants will explore how to develop movement, move bodies through space, creatively use music, compellingly structure a piece, and effectively bring their work to an audience.
The exact workshop dates will be announced soon. If you are interested, please e-mail us and we will notify you as soon as the dates are set.
Who Can Apply:
- The workshops will be open to choreographers and dancers with choreographic experience, ages 17-25.
- Participants should have strong classical training (women should be proficient on pointe) and be focused, open-minded and ready to explore.
What To Expect:
- There will be several workshops, and each will focus on a different aspect of choreography. Each session will include practical choreographic work, repertory analysis and additional subjects such as introduction to music collaboration, production nuts & bolts, and copyright and music licensing.
- Practical work will include in-depth training of choreographic skills, with participants taking turns choreographing on each other in small groups.

Will the workshops be for "ballet" choreographers only?
"Ballet" describes a wide range of styles and esthetics nowadays. The workshops' goal is to explore as many different approaches as possible and discover fundamental principles that are valid in any personal style. The more different ideas present, the better. For practical reasons, however, participants are expected to be proficient ballet dancers, in order to facilitate the group work.
The workshops are open to choreographers and "dancers with choreographic experience." How much choreographic experience is needed?
In order to benefit from the workshop, you should have choreographed enough to have a sense of your own strengths and weaknesses. You should also feel comfortable solving short choreographic tasks in class, alone or together with others.
