Damien Johnson began his training at the Etgen-Atkinson School of Ballet in his native Dallas, Texas, under the direction of Ann Etgen and Bill Atkinson. He later moved to New York to attend the School of American Ballet as a full scholarship student. After leaving the School of American Ballet, he danced with American Repertory Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem. He joined New Chamber Ballet in 2005, and created roles in Valses, Fall, Round, Spring, Velvet, Wanderlust, Follia, Cascade and Arachnophilia. While with the company, he was also a member of Los Angeles Ballet. In the spring of 2009 he moved to London to join Ballet Black.
