Christin Hanna on Eagle Rock in Tahoe
Bringing Ballet to Lake Tahoe...
New Chamber Ballet's Tahoe Project, an initiative of Tahoe native former NCB dancer Christin Hanna, was founded to enrich the community by establishing regular performances along with community outreach and educational activities in the Lake Tahoe area.
In the summers of 2006 and 2007, New Chamber Ballet was in residence in Lake Tahoe for a week of classes, lectures and performances, supported by a grant from the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.
The highlight of the 2007 residence was a sold-out live performance by New Chamber Ballet, with company dancers Christin Hanna and Damien Johnson presenting a selection of works from the company's repertory, including Cancion, a world premiere created especially for this occasion. Moderated by Artistic Director Miro Magloire, the evening offered an up-close insight into the workings of ballet and the artistry of New Chamber Ballet.
In other residency activities, hosted by the Tahoe Dance School, local dance students from the Tahoe-Truckee area had the opportunity to study with company dancers Christin Hanna and Damien Johnson and Artistic Director Miro Magloire, taking ballet classes along with classes in partnering, body conditioning and music appreciation, and learning some of New Chamber Ballet's original choreography.
In 2008, Ms. Hanna decided to return to live in Tahoe full-time. The activities of the NCB Tahoe Project have since evolved into an independent company, Tahoe Youth Ballet, founded and directed by Ms. Hanna.
